Omstart Mode (Reboot Fashion, in English) is a new permanent exhibition at the renowned Textile Museum. This exhibition explores the path towards a circular textile future through innovative production methods, while also inviting individuals to engage and influence change.

I contributed to the overall thematic concept, together with head Exhibition Designer Marcia Harvey Isaksson, a long time collaborator. The idea is to help the visitor look at fashion and sustainability through different perspectives (industri, consumer/circulent, creative), perspectives that were given their own rooms and thematic colour schemes, to better understand their unique needs, problems and possibilities. From that I created the exhibition graphics as well as the Visual Identity.

Omstart Mode (literally restart fashion) was distilled as the title for the exhibition and the initials “OM” (meaning if) were used in a creative way. “Tänk OM” (meaning both “What if” and “Rethink”) was used as a foundation for introducing the status quo and the three themes.

Exhibition Title Wall. Omstart Mode.
The Initials – OM.

Exhibition Graphics. Introductory diptyque signs in thematic colour schemes. Fashion and sustainability is a fundamental subject with great importance and urgency, while the insights and strategies evolve. The signs needed to be easily exchangeable with a light environmental footprint, therefore we chose a 300 g board throughout the exhibition, along with wallpaper on some walls.

Title Concept. Loved items as the letter O and well worn favorite jeans as the letter M.

Visual concept.

Omstart Mode. A short animated sequence. To think and act again, a constant retake, an ongoing process and iteration. To restart and Rethink Fashion!

An unsustainable present. This wall is a starting point about the current situation.

Layers of metal grids, large scale images, signs, a projection on the floor and an animated screen “Omstart – Mode – Omstart – Mode – Omstart – Mode”.

Tänk Om! Konsumtion / Rethink! Consumtion

A space dedicated to the individual and their relations to their wardrobe and consumption. To the right a dressing room table area, designated to the rituals of taking care of what you already have, with historical and contemporary perspectives.

In addition to thematic and objects signs, and the messages on second hands mirrors we, came up with the idea of making short films to bring movement and a human presence to be displayed on two standing screens. All production Entière in collaboration with Photographer Ea Czyz. The films were also used in social media.

For this space we also created a magazine for slowing down a moment in the small lounge area. The idea was also that the magazine can be a continuation, a means to stay updated on fashion and sustainability and a tool for the educational program with schools, who are the prioritized target group.

Take Care of Your Clothes. The Rituals – Tools.
Film Sequence for the exhibition.

Storytelling short film for the exhibition.

To express ourselves with our clothes is essential to us. But Take Care of Your Clothes instead of anxiously buying new ones. It can also be a meditative ritual.

Take Care of Your Clothes. The Rituals – Airing.
Storytelling short film for the exhibition.

A gentle alternative to washing. Often you can hang your clothes outdoor to air instead of washing. Works especially well with all natural fibers like cotton, hemp, linen, silk and wool.

Tänk Om! Resurser / Rethink! Resources

A space dedicated to the vast resources being used in the fashion industry and how it can find new innovations and shift towards a circular future.

Here an area dedicated to exploring different materials.

Art direction of artisan production. Material samples, images, process as well as stories about the artisans and their works. Simple and light, like the work in progress in an atelier.

Tänk Om! Production / Rethink! Production

Thematic intro signs, consisting of an introduction in Swedish and English and a moodboard for a more intuitive and attracting focus point.

This theme revolves around how local manufacturing, innovative design, and reflective practices can pave the way forward.

Thematic intro signs for the “atelier space” for the Production perspective.

Tänk Om! Lounge / Rethink! Lounge

In this space groups can gather on a reused platform to watch films and discuss different subjects from the exhibition.

In addition to the thematic signs and large scale posters, we created a graphic curtain in the thematic colour scheme in a variation of textiles with different approaches to sustainability (such as reused fibers etc.).

Tänk Om! Lounge / Rethink! Lounge

70x100 Posters

A graphic curtain in the thematic colour scheme of the lounge space, consisting of textiles with their own stories of ways to reducing the environmental impact. Recycled pet / wool etc.
